Sometimes in life it’s amazing to look back at something after it has unfolded and try and remember how it became successful. Back in March I was invited to a press conference from the Niagara Basketball Leagues newest Niagara Franchise.

Basketball at the Meridian Centre, seems like and interesting idea…

I have been to countless IceDogs games over the last year and a half, I can image this could definitely be something that can work.

From there I watched as things developed with logo design, swag, KEVIN - IMG_0299marketing, branded floor, digital scoreboard, in game DJ and entertainment, dance pak, and meeting Dunkin, Niagara’s newest mascot!

But even with all of the bells and whistles there is still one determining factor that makes a successful sports franchise, no matter what sport or league -and that is the product on the court. After attending the home opener on the 27th, I can officially say I am hooked.

Live basketball featuring music, slam dunks, tight defence, emotion, and hard fought competition. It was a storybook ending for the KEVIN - IMG_0191RiverLions beating their newest rival in the London Lighting on the back end of home and home, Niagara’s first ever game at the Meridian Centre.

The game featured a back and forth action with a combined total of over 200 points! Three point shots, slam dunks, lead changes. Capped off by a three point shot to seal the game with 0.6 seconds left on the clock!

A few people I had talked to after the game were admittedly not very big basketball fans were noticeably excited after the game. “That was a great game! “Said one. Another mentioned that they would really like to come to the next KEVIN - IMG_0477game.

I myself was impressed, I got chills watching the game, and I have only been to a handful of basketball games in my life. I think with this team in my backyard, that is going to change.

Congrats to all of the RiverLion’s ownership and staff, you have succeeded in providing Niagara with a great opportunity to enjoy a professional level of basketball in a great place to live.

If this home opener is any indication of the direction of this team, I am very excited about the possibilities for this team and league.

GO LIONS GO!!!!
