Niagara Spears Battle at Prospect Camp for U-18 Team Onatrio

March 26th 2016- Stoney Creek Ont., Player’s Paradise in Stoney Creek was one of four locations across Ontario to hold a selection camp to choose the top 90, U-18 football players in Ontario.This is an elite event where parents, coaches and scouts filled the observation deck overlooking the furious mini camp action.

Players that are selected from this camp will attend the April 15th – 17th,  Top 90 U18 annual Red vs Black Weekend held in Guelph Ont. The Top 90 players are selected by Head Coach Glen Mills. All players were personally invited by Coach Mills or a member of his staff for the event. Players will go  through an intense university style mini-camp which will be followed by a Red vs Black game that will be filmed to professional CFL standards in which the final roster for the Canada Cup will be selected. The Football Canada Cup (FCC) is the premiere pre-university football tournament in Canada which annually showcases the top under-18 football players from across the country. This years tournament takes place in Winnipeg, MB.

Niagara was represented by a few select Spears players that atended camp. Here is a quick look at a few of the players that involved.

Sandor Mod: Sandor stands 6ft 3 inches tall weighing in at over 248 pounds. This defensive lineman has been a mainstay of the Spears strong defense, tackling everything that gets in his way. Sandor currently attends Notre Dame high school and will looking to find a University home soon. Sandor is really looking to find the right fit that will provide him with the best education and playing opportunity.

Max Doney: Max is a very talented offensive lineman out of Stamford Colligate. Clocking in at 6’1, 275 lbs Max is someone that you want protecting your quarterback. Max is also a student that is already giving back to the game he loves. He acts as the assistant coach for the offensive and defensive line with the Niagara Region Generals.

Jack Scordino- A junior varsity standout, this linebacker is a product of the Dennis Morris football program. Scordino is a leading OUA candidate  having proven himself with both the Redmen and the Spears.

Jake Porter: Quick and strong defensive back, 5’11 ft, 175 lbs Jake also attends Notre Dame until his graduating year in 2017. Porter has a great ability to collect solo tackles, return punts, and create turnovers.

Jacob Andrews- Prime position is safety where his 6ft 180 pound frame allows him to annticipate the offense’s next move. Another JV Spears standout Andrews highlights can be seen below.
