ST. CATHARINES, ON – The Brock University Athletes of the Week for the week ending January 10th are women’s wrestler Olivia Di Bacco (Orillia, ON) and women’s hockey player Jensen Murphy (Kingston, ON) who earn co-female honours and men’s wrestler Sam Jagas (Kitchener, ON).
Di Bacco, a fifth year Kinesiology major, helped lead the No. 1 ranked Brock women’s wrestling team to their fifth tournament title of the season as they captured first at the Brock Open. She placed first at 72kg posting a perfect 3-0 record and was named the Most Outstanding Female Wrestler.
Murphy, a first year Medical Sciences major, helped lead the Brock women’s hockey team to a 1-1 record this past week. In two games, she posted a 1.00 GAA and .966 save percentage highlighted by a 27-save shutout performance in the Badgers 1-0 victory over Waterloo. In 11 games this season, Murphy ranks among OUA rookie leaders in GAA (1.73), SV% (.942) and saves (311).
Jagas, a third year Biochemistry major, helped lead the Brock men’s wrestling team to their fourth tournament title of the season as they placed first at the Brock Open. Jagas captured gold at 57kg defeating Guelph’s Oren Furmanov in the gold medal match. For his performance, he was named Most Outstanding Male Wrestler.
