STCATHARINES, ON – Monday, February 8, 2016 – On Sunday afternoon the Niagara Lock Monsters hosted the Durham Turfdogs in a week one rematch at the Meridian Centre. Durham took game one of the 2016 season 14-13 on a last second goal by Geoff McNulty. On Sunday, Niagara would use a strong second half to complete a 14-13 come from behind victory over the Turfdogs.
The Turfdogs would be the first on the board when Dylan Goddard opened the scoring just under five minutes in. This would spark a three goal run by Niagara who would get goals from Corey Fowler, Zac Reid, and Brad Favero and jump out to a 3-1 lead. However, Durham would close out the first with a three goal run of their own and take a 4-3 lead into the second quarter.
It would be Niagara’s turn to open the scoring in the second as Brandon Slade would score less than two minutes in, however, Durham would reply with three straight goals. The Lock Monsters would get the final goal of the quarter from Brad Favero with thirty second remaining in the half and Durham would lead 7-5 going into halftime.
The third quarter would be back and forth with eleven goals scored between the two teams. After Durham’s fourth goal of the quarter, John Preece would replace Connor Danko in net for the Lock Monsters. Niagara would outscore Durham 6-5 in the quarter and cut the Turfdogs lead to 12-11.
In the fourth, Niagara would pour it on as Brenden Thenhaus would score the tying and go ahead goals less than thirty seconds apart. Mike Triolo would get the lone goal in the quarter for the Turfdogs and Niagara would complete the comeback for a 14-13 victory.
