The Niagara Rapids U16 Boys team took part in the Rochester Can-Am tournament. There were 25 teams competing for a bid to the US National Championships. In the first game of pool play the Niagara Rapids U16 team took on Coastal Gold from Virigina Beach and defeated them 25 to 18 and 27 to 25. In their second game they took on Pace Bootlegger Blue from Rochester and came way with a 25 to 15 and 25 to 15. In their final pool play game the Rapids took on Richmond Volleyball Club and came away with a 25 to 12; 22 to 25 and 15 to 7 victory and first place in their pool. The teams were now re-pooled for the second day of competition. In their first game the Rapids played the Markham Stingers and won 25 to 22; 21 to 25 and 15 to 13. In their second game they took on Forest City from London and came away with a hard fought victory 20 to 25; 25 to 14 and 15 to 10 to finish first in the pool and put the Rapids U16 team in the Championship Round of the play-offs. In the quarter-finals they took on the PacMan from Mississauga and defeated them 28 to 26 and 25 to 16 to advance to the semi-finals. Here they took on Coastal Nike from Virgina Beach last years Bronze Medalist at the US Nationals and in a very well played match the Rapids came away with a 17 to 25 : 25 to 23 and 15 to 12 victory. In the finals the Niagara Rapids took on last years fifth place finisher at the Nationals the Pace Bootlegger from Rochester. It was a hard fought battle with both teams battle point for point with the Pace Bootleggers coming out on top 32 to 30; 22 to 25 and 13 to 15. With the second place finish the Niagara Rapids captured one of the bids to the US Nationals in Reno, Nevada at the end of June. The team is looking for sponsers as they will be taking part in the Ontario Championships in April and then the Eastern Nationals in Sherbrooke, Quebec in May and finally the US Nationals in Reno, Nevada.
